LACC to UCLA transfer
I met Professor Andrew Walzer at a pivotal moment in my undergraduate journey, when I was his student at Los Angeles City College (LACC).
After withdrawing from a four-year institution that was not the right fit, I enrolled in community college to transfer to my dream school, UCLA.
Uncertain of my next steps, I was unsure how best to position myself for a successful return to a four-year institution. Professor Walzer provided me with clarity on how to do so at a time when I needed it most.
His Humanities classes challenged me to think more deeply, write intentionally, and build confidence in my voice. With engaging material and nuanced assignments, Professor Walzer pushed me to strengthen my synthesis and critical-thinking skills. Through personalized feedback, he encouraged me to see myself as a more confident and capable scholar.
Outside the classroom, it was his mentorship that made Professor Walzer a standout educator in my life. Through one-on-one advising, he helped me identify my overlooked strengths and encouraged me to enroll in the Honors Program at my community college. Throughout my time as an honors scholar and as a transfer applicant, Professor Walzer guided me through the complex processes and challenges of navigating my return to the four-year university system.
Professor Walzer helped me develop the direction, language, confidence, and academic skills needed to transfer to UCLA.
He is an exceptional educator, an outstanding mentor, and the consultant you want.
Mary Granados:
UCLA Psychology Student
Accepted to UCLA, UC San Diego, and USC
Growing up as a homeschooled student in Mexico, my biggest dream was to attend UCLA. Although that dream seemed far away, I learned that community college could provide a pathway to make it a reality.
Attending Los Angeles City College for my first two years of education gave me the tools to prepare a strong transfer application and develop my research skills. One of the best honors courses I have taken at LACC has been “Great Women, Great Eras” in the Humanities, taught by Professor Andrew Walzer.
For my Honors Paper, Professor Walzer did not limit me to the given prompts; rather, he gave me the opportunity to expand my research and develop a two-independent-samples t-test. Through this research, I examined differences in perceived sexualization between Latina and non-Latina women.
Professor Walzer also provided valuable feedback on my transfer applications, helping me strengthen my essays and present my experiences more effectively.
He supported me throughout my scholarship applications by writing letters of recommendation on my behalf.
Thanks to the opportunities and mentorship I received at LACC, I was accepted to UCLA, UC San Diego, and USC. Today, I am proud to say that I will begin my journey as a Bruin at UCLA in Fall 2026.

As an international student, I needed a mentor who truly knew the US academic landscape, and I found that in Dr. Walzer. Not only is he a great teacher who elevates his students' academic development, but he is also deeply knowledgeable about American universities.
His expert feedback helped me narrow the list of universities I was interested in, elevated my essays, and was instrumental in my acceptance to top-tier universities.
His endorsement even helped me secure a scholarship.
I highly recommend Dr. Walzer to any student seeking an expert consultant who will truly champion their goals.
